Leg Pillow &
Accessories
A leg pillow is handy for elevating legs especially in the event
of injuries or simply just to help align the body to a position that’s comfortable enough for sleeping or
even for relaxing while sitting and watching television.
There has even been special leg pillows designed in recent years for
aligning the spine during rest and sleep, taking the strain off the back and the rest of the body. When it comes
to supporting elevated legs, regular pillows cannot beat the support offered by leg
pillows.
Leg pillows come in different types. Here are some types of leg pillows
you can use for supporting your legs and knees.
Roll
Pillows
Roll pillows are cylindrically shaped pillows. They are great leg
pillows. In fact, some pillow manufacturers actually sell roll pillows for this very purpose. Why they make for
great leg pillows can be greatly credited for their cylindrical or roll shape which are perfect for placing
pillows comfortably under the knees as they allow the knees to arch up without straining the muscles of the
legs.
This arch in the knees helps align the spine and reduce back problems as
well. Roll leg pillows are made from memory foam, regular cushion foams, traditional pillow batting and micro
beads.
Concave
Pillows
Another type of leg pillows are the concave
leg pillows. These are pillows which are designed to fit comfortably between the legs. Concave leg pillows are
often made of thick or harder foam compared to other kinds of cushions or pillows. The concave leg pillows works by
separating the legs to hold the legs parallel, therefore reducing spine strain. Some concave leg pillow brands or
models are made to have fitted elastic loops to hold the pillows into place through the night even as you move
around in your bed while you sleep. To make this type of leg pillow, memory foam is often used.
Leg
Wedges
Wedge-shaped leg pillows are another type of
leg pillows. They also work greatly for supporting the legs and knees as they hold the legs open and outward or up,
depending on placement. With the wedge leg pillows placed under the legs, they hold your legs upward at a
comfortable angle while you sleep or rest on your back. Wedge leg pillows when put between the legs will hold the
legs apart as you sleep on your side; when the wedge leg pillow is placed between your legs this way, the leg on
top will angle upward.
Leg wedge shaped pillows are generally
designed with a comfortable 45-degree angle which is very much ideal for use for elevating legs with injuries,
promoting healing, preventing stiffness and keeping the blood circulating to the leg normally as
well.
Thick foam or memory foam is what wedge leg
pillows are common made from. There are different types of wedge leg pillows which include full leg wedges and knee
wedge pillows for holding the knees up off the bed; knee wedge pillows actually work the same as roll
pillows.
